And it’s right there in Stockholm. Who would have thought?

Ett Hem has done what almost every hotel says it wants to do: create a home away from home.

They’ve just actually managed to pull it off.
(And trust me, I’ve stayed at plenty of hotels that use those exact words but feel anything but homely. )

Two beautiful villas brought together to create one pretty extraordinary experience. Designed by Ilse Crawford.

Bespoke cabinetry, timber-clad walls, beautiful colours and interiors, art everywhere and seriously good design. But most importantly: the design is made for the guest. Not for the designer or the hotel.

The service is incredible. But at the same time, there are honesty bars dotted around the house, where you make your own drink and simply write down what you’ve had on a little piece of paper. Totally old school. And it works. 🥂

Each villa has an open kitchen. The chefs cook right there, you pull up a chair at the kitchen counter, cut yourself a slice of the cake sitting out and have a chat with whoever is cooking. Breakfast works the same way.

No menus. If you’re hungry, you pick up the phone, tell them what you feel like eating, and somehow it appears wherever in the house you’ve decided to settle in.

(So naturally, you wait for the bill with just a tiny bit of anticipation.)

It feels as though there aren’t really any restrictions. Anything is possible. Yet somehow, it never feels extravagant.

A great hotel is a lot like a great band. Everyone knows the song, but the magic lies in knowing when to step forward, when to step back, and how to play together.

At Ett Hem, they play it damn well.
